Bedtime Stories Guidelines

Dozing off with a bedtime story

As a child, I loved all sorts of bedtime stories and have carried a love of short stories into later life.

The aim of this part of the website is to create an online archive of new, original writing by a mix of professional and amateur writers.

Hopefully, as the collection grows anyone who comes to the site will be able to find bedtime story to lull them to sleep, by writers that they might have heard of or are discovering for the first time.

The criteria for submissions:

  1. Stories should be around 3000 words long. They can be a little bit over and a little bit under, but the aim is that they can be read in one sitting.

  1. There are no rules about what the stories should be about, in terms of theme or subject matter - but hold onto the idea that they are to be read before falling asleep.

  1. If you are writing a bedtime story for children please specify that in the subject heading of the submission.

  1. All stories published on The Sleep Club website remain the property of the writer.

  1. Not all stories submitted to The Sleep Club will be published on the site.    The editorial team’s choice might sometimes be disappointing, but it is always final.

  1. The Sleep Club is able to offer a nominal fee to those writers we chose to publish on the site.

  1. All stories submitted to The Sleep Club must be original and the property of the writer.

  1. All stories must work as standalone pieces and should not be chapters from longer works.

  1. Writers are allowed to submit ONE bedtime story only per round.
